Kentucky Artisan Center's Satellite Store at the World Equestrian Games spurs Kentucky artisans to create new works

September, 23, 2010

BEREA, Ky. – Spurred creatively by the opportunity to have their works for sale at the Kentucky Artisan Center’s Satellite Store during the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, numerous Kentucky artisans who regularly sell at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, have created brand new designs based on equestrian themes.

The Kentucky ExperienceThese brand new artisan works will be for sale at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea’s Satellite Store, located in the Kentucky Proud Product Pavilion - one of three buildings that form the Kentucky Experience complex at the WEG being held at the Kentucky Horse Park Sept. 25 - Oct. 10, 2010.

JanetOne such Kentucky artisan with new designs is Janet Bailey Burch of Crestwood, Ky. Burch has created small, framed, low-relief wood sculptures of horses running and jumping as well as wooden painted horse ornaments depicting dressage movements. Artistic familiarity comes naturally for Burch who has been teaching, showing, training and judging horses for most of her adult life giving her a thorough knowledge of the structure of the horse to create her scroll sawn and carved wood sculptures. Burch states, “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to create new work for an audience that is totally focused on the horse.”

Burch’s works will be available at the Kentucky Artisan Center’s Satellite Store in the Kentucky Proud Product Pavilion throughout the games. Burch will be on site demonstrating her unique sculpting techniques on Tuesday, Oct. 5 from 3:30 - 6:30 p.m. at the Kentucky Artisan Center’s Satellite Store, talking with visitors and showing them the creative process she uses.

Over the OxerVisitors with general admission tickets will be able to see creativity come to life every day at the Kentucky Artisan Center Satellite Store where works by more than 400 Kentucky artisans will be available for sale.
